Chelsea given green light to sign German wonderkid

Julian BrandtThe Football Transfer Tavern is getting a lick of paint today as we look to spruce up the bar ahead of the always busy transfer window opening in January.

A group of Chelsea fans are enjoying a game of pool when Nick Lustig from the Daily Star arrives with news about their latest Bundesliga target.

Lustig suggests that the Blues are now set to increase their interest in highly-rated German winger Julian Brandt after reports emerged that he rejected a new deal at current side Wolfsburg.

The Blues have been closely scouting the 17-year-old with a view to a possible move while German giants Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund also watching the German Under-19 international.

Brandt appears to have turned down the latest offer on the table from Wolfsburg and is now free to leave the Volkswagen Arena when his contract expires at the end of the current season.

“Julian Brandt has turned down the offer to sign a new contract with VfL Wolfsburg,” a Wolfsburg spokesperson stated.

“As he is out of contract at the end of the campaign, Julian Brandt will therefore depart from VfL Wolfsburg.”

This is exciting news for the Blues fans as Jose Mourinho is a well-known admirer of Brandt and he will now step up his efforts to land the promising youngster’s signature even if Wolfsburg will receive some compensation for any deal given his young age.

Is Brandt really a future Chelsea star in waiting? Let us know your thoughts below.
