Chelsea given the go ahead in race to sign Lionel Messi

messiMetro have managed to get Chelsea fans scrambling over to the bar for the gossip here in the Football Transfer Tavern and as our landlord quips, we are just glad they have finally stopped moaning about the FA!

The reason for their distraction is none other than Lionel Messi, who has once again been linked with the Blues in a £200 million deal – and it is all down to former teammate Eric Abidal.

The former Barcelona defender has been speaking about Messi’s future and why he might be tempted to leave the club he has been at for his whole career and claimed: ‘Being able to win trophies with another club, that remains a possibility.’

There was no mention of manager Luis Enrique or Messi’s late night trip to the casino ahead of the clash against Manchester City but as one of our punters notes, you do not have to be Miss Marple to know that there is a divide between the players and the manager this season at the Camp Nou and that could well see Messi walk away from the club.

The one stumbling block for Chelsea could well be the transfer embargo Barcelona are currently facing – and even our most optimistic punters  (or deluded depending on your view point) don’t think Barcelona would sell their best player without having a replacement lined up.

Chelsea fans. Will the FA begin to play by your rules before you sign Messi? Is there any chance this will actually come off? Let us know your thoughts below.
