Chelsea fans haven’t had too much to celebrate in the Transfer Tavern this season and the lads playing pool are worried that they’ll also miss out on the signature of their prime target this summer.
Fortunately, it seems the club is desperate not to see a long-term pursuit end in failure as The Mirror reports Chelsea are ready to fight Manchester City all the way for the signature of Everton’s John Stones.
Stones has been top of Chelsea’s wish-list since a very public pursuit of the England international last summer and the expected departure of cult hero John Terry this summer has intensified their need to land the quality 21-year-old.
However, Manchester City, led by Pep Guardiola, want to throw a spanner in the works with their own deal for Stones- and Chelsea are keen to ensure that doesn’t happen, with the Blues prepared to offer a player on-loan as an incentive to the Toffees.
Stones’ Everton, through to the FA Cup semi-finals, have struggled in the Premier League this term and a chance to play European football could be a deciding factor- although our landlord does feel Chelsea’s lack of Champions League involvement could prove decisive.
Chelsea fans, can you beat Man City to Stones? Let us know in the comments below!
