Metro have a claim that Chelsea fans are loving here in the Football Transfer Tavern.
The publication think that the West London club have been handed a huge boost in their chase for Porto defender Eliaquim Mangala after Porto admitted they could be willing to sell the player.
It has become increasingly clear that Chelsea are in need of a world class defender. John Terry has been excellent this season, but is not getting any younger. The less said about liability Luiz and Gary Cahill the better.
As our punters note, it is not a shock that Jose Mourinho – someone who prides himself on his team’s defending – is moving for the star centre back.
Mangala has been making headlines for some time now, and only seems to be getting better.
Chelsea will face some tough competition from Premier League rivals Manchester United if they want to land the French international, but one thing is clear – Porto are very willing to sell, for the right price that is.
An offer of around £30 million would persuade the club to sell, and President Pinto Da Costa noted: “I see his name linked with clubs all the time in the media.
“He has a release clause and clubs know that, but if a bid arrives that attracts us then we could sell.”
Will Porto sell the star Frenchman this January? Let us know your thoughts below.
