The panic is beginning to set in for the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern...
Chelsea looked very poor against Burnley on Saturday, and not even a couple of late goals from Alvaro Morata and David Luiz could turn things around for the club.
Indeed, the first half was arguably Chelsea’s worst 45 minutes in some time, and Antonio Conte clearly has his work cut out to turn his faltering team around.
However, it looks as though Chelsea are keen to back their manager over the coming weeks, with the Express reporting that the Blues have big plans before the transfer window slams shut. James Dickenson writes for the Express that Chelsea are ready to spend as much as £130 million before the window closes, with a move for Danny Drinkwater being touted by the publication.
It would certainly mark a change of tact from the Blues, who have become increasingly hesitant to spend big over the last few years and – in particular – over the last few months.
Clearly, though, something has to give at Stamford Bridge.
Antonio Conte deserves a lot of credit for his first season in charge at Stamford Bridge, and if nothing else, he deserves the chance to turn things around at the club.
He needs to be backed financially for that to happen, particularly given that Chelsea are set to profit from a number of big sales both this summer and over the last year or so.
More depth both in the defence and the midfield is a real priority, whilst a bit more quality in the attack wouldn’t go amiss either.
