The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have very high hopes for young Tammy Abraham…
After a stellar campaign in the Championship last season, the Englishman has been touted with making the step up to the Premier League this year – and it looks like he could be about to do just that.
According to the Times, Newcastle have won the race to sign the striker this summer – with Chelsea seemingly ready to let the 19-year-old make a name for himself in the Premier League.
Interestingly, it was reported several weeks ago that Brighton were in the hunt for him, but it looks as though the Magpies have beaten their old Championship rivals to the deal.
It came as no surprise to those in the pub to see that several clubs were keen on the striker, with the 19-year-old impressing during his debut season in the Championship. He managed to bag a remarkable 23 league goals last season, whilst playing for a disappointing Bristol City side, and so a step up could be exactly what he needs to take his game to the next level.
That being said, our resident Newcastle fans in the pub aren’t too sure where he is going to fit in, given the attacking options currently on display at St. James’ Park. With a goalscoring record like he has, though, our landlord thinks that manager Rafael Benitez is going to have to fit him in somewhere.
