The Serbian star, who picked up first senior international cap at just 17, is also understood to have been watched by Liverpool among other top clubs but it appears that the Blues have taken the first steps to land the talented 19-year-old.

The Mirror indicates that the return of Jose Mourinho to Stamford Bridge could see a deal completed this summer as he looks to bring the finest talents in Europe to Chelsea.

Markovic admitted recently that he’d be keen on a move to the Premier League.

“A lot of people say that maybe I’m not suited to the English league,” he said.

“But I can tell you that I love the Premier League and I see it as an ideal stage for me.”

Rated at £6 million, Markovic could be next major talent arriving at Stamford Bridge under the watchful eye of technical director Michael Emenalo.
