It’s the turn of the weekly darts tournament in the Football Transfer Tavern tonight and the landlord is preparing the oche for the set of matches.
This is when John Cross from The Mirror arrives with the latest speculation from Stamford Bridge.
Cross goes across to have a quiet word with the group of Chelsea supporters who are taking their places in the darts event before arriving at the bar to explain that Chelsea have held secret talks about a £30 million January transfer for Porto striker Jackson Martinez.
The 27-year-old Colombian international is highly regarded in the tavern and now reports suggest that Martinez’s agent, Henrique Pompeo, has been to London for discussions with Roman Abramovich’s trusted lieutenant Marina Granovskaia.
Porto could be ready to sell their star striker if they fail to reach the Champions League’s knock out stages, and given the fact they have to beat in-form Atletico Madrid away in their final game, Blues fans at the bar are confident that he will be available for sale this winter.
Martinez, who contract is not due to expire until 2016, has found the net 34 times in his 40 games for the Portuguese side since he joined from Chiapas in the Mexican top flight in July 2012.
Porto want the Blues to meet the set £35 million release clause but the Premier League side are hopeful of securing the prolific frontman on a cheaper deal as Mourinho tries to strengthen his strikeforce in January.
Another name on the wishlist for Mourinho is Monaco’s Radamel Falcao, who could be sold just six months after making the original switch to the Ligue 1 side.
