The player has been linked to Chelsea for a number of weeks and is believed to be manager Carlo Ancelotti’s top transfer target after he secured the signing of fellow Brazilian Ramires from Benfica earlier this week, in a fee believed to be in excess of £18 million.
Neymar’s father, who has been heavily involved in his son’s transfer saga, has told current club Santos that they need to treble the Brazilian’s contract to £40,000 in order for him to remain at the club.
The situation is proving to be very difficult for the youngster, as he has recently stated that he would welcome a move to one of the biggest clubs in the world in Chelsea, but would find it extremely difficult to leave a club which brought him into the professional game and is so dear to his heart.
Neymar’s transfer situation is one which has brought much public comment with Brazilian legend Pele, Robinho and new Brazilian manager Mano Menezes all warning the player not to leave Brazilian football as they believe it would hamper the players growing potential.
While Chelsea manager Ancelotti would love to bring the player, who scored on his Brazil debut in a friendly against the USA this summer, to Stamford Bridge, Santo’s have stated they will only accept an offer matching the players £30 million release clause, a sum which is believed to be some £6 million over that which the West London club are willing to pay.
