The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are delighted at Antonio Conte’s utilisation of young players this season…
In contrast to Jose Mourinho, the likes of Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Nathaniel Chalobah and Ola Aina have been given a chance on occasion this season – with Chalobah, in particular, benefitting from the arrival of Conte.
Often brought on in the final moments as a means of securing the Blues’ defence, Chalobah appears to have gained the trust of Antonio Conte with his fine displays both on the training ground and on the pitch, with next season likely to bring with it even more game time.
More good news could come for Chalobah before the beginning of next season, though, with the Evening Standard reporting that Conte is keen to reward Chalobah with a new contract following his fine season in a blue shirt.
This is certainly a vote of confidence for the young Englishman, and whilst he has yet to become a regular, a new deal would certainly suggest that Conte gives him a chance of progressing as time goes on.
He has been a semi-regular this season, and whilst he has rarely started, Conte has regularly given him game time when he has been afforded it.
It appears as though Chalobah’s new deal may not be the only one coming this season, though, with his midfield rival, Nemanja Matic, also reportedly set to gain a new contract.
