For the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern, a few more signings are desperately needed at Chelsea…
There has been a lot of talk over the last few months, but Chelsea’s progress has been very minimal, and they are beginning to run out of time.
With the window set to close next week, Chelsea need to up their game and make a few signings happen, and according to the Telegraph, they are working to that end.
Matt Law of the Telegraph reports that Chelsea are keen to start a £100 million spending spree between now and the end of the summer, with a £35 million move for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain already having been made.
The Ox is still yet to sign a new deal at the Emirates, and with his contract set to expire next summer, it seems as though Chelsea are looking to capitalise.
The Blues have spent a lot of money this summer, with big names like Tiemoue Bakayoko and Alvaro Morata moving to Stamford Bridge, but given that they have sold a number of players, most notably Nemanja Matic, their net spend is far below some of the Premier League’s other teams.
It makes sense, then, for the Blues to invest heavily over the next week.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is exactly what Chelsea need. His versatility means that he will be able to play out wide and in the middle for the Blues, immediately plugging a few of the gaps in Antonio Conte’s squad.
With Ross Barkley and Danny Drinkwater also on Conte’s radar, Chelsea are clearly keen to sign a few homegrown players, and that will help to balance out their squad.
However, with just a week to go until the window closes, time is running out.
