There is a real buzz in the Football Transfer Tavern tonight. We have the talkSPORT staff party and the football rumours are flying around (and so are the peanuts).
In between the karaoke and the darts competition, I overheard a couple of the talkSPORT staff mention Chelsea’s name in relation to Bayern Munich’s Luiz Gustavo.
The Brazilian midfielder was linked with Arsenal earlier in the transfer window and with the arrival of Barcelona’s Thiago Alcantara at the Allianz Arena, the competition in Bayern’s midfield is fierce and it sounds like Gustavo could be sold.
The 25-year-old is wanted by Jose Mourinho as a replacement for John Obi Mikel, who is expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer, despite signing a new five-year contract last year.
If the West London club are successful in signing the Confederations Cup winner, it is believed they will have to pay around £16 million for the Brazilian international.
Despite the potential signing of the Champions League winner, some Chelsea fans have some concerned looks on their faces. After a few more tequilas, I eventually manage to get them to ‘open up’ and through the tears; I manage to work out that they feel that ‘The Happy One’ should be making a striker his priority.
Hard bunch to please you football fans, especially when drunk!
