The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping for a few new signings in January…
The Blues are flying high in the Premier League, but it is a tale that the Blues in the Tavern have seen before. Chelsea have often impressed early doors in the Premier League – only to drop off as the season begins to heat up.
So far, Conte has resisted and prevented a blip – but it is surely only a matter of time, and so the Italian must prepare for that inevitability.
The best way to prepare is by signing new players, and it would appear as though the Italian is planning just that.
According to France Football, Chelsea have launched a £21 million (€25 million) move for Serie A star Franck Kessie.
Currently playing for Atlanta in the Italian top division, Kessie would provide the Italian boss with a bit of depth in an area that he has very little – and so this move has proved to be a popular one amongst the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern.
In terms of play style, Kessie is a hard-working box-to-box style midfielder – a type of figure that Chelsea have lacked since the departure of Ramires. He also brings excellent ball control and dribbling – meaning that he could be the perfect man to partner the likes of N’Golo Kante in the heart of the Chelsea midfield.
With the likes of Loftus-Cheek and Matic facing uncertain futures at Stamford Bridge, a move for the Ivorian would be wise.
Our landlord thinks that given the fact that Chelsea are top of the league, Antonio Conte must be investing in strong, powerful players – and Kessie is definitely in that mould.
