The Football Transfer Tavern is packed this evening when news arrives of a massive transfer battle on the horizon.
The Express reports that Chelsea will have to fend off interest from Real Madrid to sign Monaco striker Radamel Falcao in January.
French reports indicate that Chelsea will try and move for the powerhouse in January instead of holding off until the summer with interest mounting from Madrid.
It is thought that Portuguese winger Cristiano Ronaldo has personally appealed to Real president Florentino Perez to sign Falcao but Chelsea are preparing to rival the Spanish giants.
According to French reports, there are a number of reasons why the 27-year-old could end up at Stamford Bridge.
The fact that Monaco are ready to offload the striker in order to compile with UEFA’s strict Financial Fair Play rules.
Given the strong relationship between Monaco owner Dmitry Rybolovlev and fellow Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, a pssible transfer could be in the offering.
Falcao, who would be able to represent Chelsea in the Champions League this season, happens to be represented by the same agent as Mourinho, Jorge Mendes, and this could also help to facilitate a move to SW6.
It now remains to be seen however, whether a fee can be agreed and whether Falcao would want a move to London, having previously played in Madrid with Atletico before moving to Spain.
