Chelsea in transfer setback as priority target is set to sign new deal

This is a definitely a blow for the Chelsea fans in the Football Transfer Tavern…

It has been an up and down season for Chelsea thus far, and their mixed set of results have left the Chelsea faithful in the Tavern longing for further signings in the January transfer window.

Some of the more vocal Blues fans have claimed that Chelsea are desperate for a new midfielder, with both Fabregas and Matic lacking form – and they have suggested that Antonio Conte goes back in for reported summer target Radja Nainggolan as soon as possible.

Chelsea’s pursuit of Nainggolan was well documented over the summer, and whilst our landlord expected the deal to get done; it was not to be.

It was widely expected that the Blues would go back in for the Belgian in January, ahead of a title charge in the second half of the season.

However, hat move does not look likely now – with reports emerging that he is about to sign a new deal with current club Roma.

As per Gazetta dello Sport, Nainggolan is set for a new 4-year Roma deal worth €20 million – which would make him the 3rd highest paid player in Serie A.

This will no doubt come as a blow to the Chelsea fans in the Tavern, who have long proclaimed that his aggression and tackling could be unstoppable in the heart of the Chelsea midfield.

With Cesc Fabregas still being linked with a move away, our landlord thinks it is becoming harder and harder to see where Chelsea can look in search of midfield reinforcement.
