As a former favourite in the Football Transfer Tavern, news that Luka Modric could be heading back to England has been met with approval by punters closely following this Saturday’s matches.
The Sun report that Chelsea are the team looking to bring Modric back to the Premier League and Roman Abramovich is willing to offer £22 million to tempt Real Madrid to sell the Croatian to the Blues during the summer.
The midfielder was recently voted as La Liga’s worst signing of 2012 having moved to the Bernabeu from Spurs in the summer for £33 million after a long transfer saga. He has struggled to adapt to life in Spain and Jose Mourinho has only used him as a squad player so far.
This could see a potential return to England, with Chelsea desperately seeking some reinforcements in midfield with Frank Lampard set to leave in the summer. After missing out of Metalist Kharkiv’s Brazilian Taison yesterday, Modric has moved to the front of the queue.
The Blues have shown interest in Modric in previous windows after an offer of £40 million to lure him to Stamford Bridge in 2010 was rejected by the White Hart Lane club.
