It hardly comes as a big shock to us here in the Football Transfer Tavern that Metro have claimed Jose Mourinho has just warned Barcelona off David Luiz.
The defender has been on he edges of the action at Stamford Bridge since the return of the Special One, and now it seems that he could well have to put up with life on the bench a little while longer.
Luiz actually played in the slender home victory against Crystal Palace, but again looked shaky at the back. Despite that, it seems the Blues will be sticking with him for a little while longer.
Chelsea are facing a season where they are competing for trophies on four fronts, meaning all players will be vital at some stage.
Jose Mourinho’s relationship with Barcelona has never been good, but it has deteriorated dramatically since he spent time as manager of rivals Real Madrid. He was asked about the future of Brazilian international Luiz, and the potential chances of a January move to the Camp Nou.
The manager responded in a typically bullish style, and noted: “Everything is clear. He’s our player and we are happy he’s back in a moment when we need him and John in defence,
“The market is open in January but I don’t think we will be buying or selling. There has been no contact from other clubs or from his people.”
Will Mourinho stay true to his word and keep Luiz in West London? Let us know your thoughts below.
