Another summer, another Southampton fire sale according to Metro and as our punters note here in the Football Transfer Tavern, Chelsea and Manchester United seem ready to go head to head for Nathaniel Clyne.
The right-back has less than 18 months left on his current deal and after seeing how effective he has been for the side from the south coast, both Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal have decided they fancy adding him to their ranks.
As our landlord quips, we could have a pub quiz on which Premier League sides have bought Saints players from the last couple of seasons alone and be there all night, and it seems that is not set to change any time soon.
Clyne is only 23 years of age and has his best years ahead of him – but a word of caution is added by our punters who remind us that Luke Shaw was a very good left back when at Southampton, and has not lived up to his price tag since moving to Old Trafford and we are not sure that Clyne will be any different.
