Chelsea keen on £21m move for 24-year-old Bundesliga ace

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have been delighted with their side’s start to the season, but they know there is a lot of work still to be done…

The Blues are currently embarking on a 13-game winning streak in the Premier League, with Antonio Conte overseeing a remarkable turnaround at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea were busy putting off the threat of relegation last season, but now have a chance to regain their Premier League crown at the end of the season – and the Blues in the Transfer Tavern are absolutely delighted about that.

However, one outstanding criticism in the Tavern of the Chelsea first team this season has been the perceived lack of depth in the ranks. Certain positions, such as the midfield and attack, are well stocked – but defensively, Conte has a number of issues.

A lack of depth, most notably on the left-hand side, is going to cause issues for Conte long-term – with Marcos Alonso the only real option for the Italian at present.

This is, reportedly, something that he is looking to remedy, though, with the Sun reporting that Chelsea have begun initial enquiries into a £21m move for Wolfsburg left-back Ricardo Rodriguez.

The Sun notes that Conte is hopeful that a deal can be agreed, and whilst Arsenal are also reportedly also keen – it is Chelsea who have made the first move.

Contextually, the deal makes a lot of sense – given that not only is Alonso the only option in that role at present, but the Spaniard has looked somewhat shaky against the bigger sides in the Premier League this season, and so our landlord thinks that Rodriguez would be a fine signing for Conte.

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are in agreement, and have pointed towards the fine Bundesliga form of Rodriguez as a sign of how good he could be in the Premier League.
