Chelsea keen on 29-year-old playmaker as Conte eyes additional midfield depth

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have been hoping that their side would look to reinvest the money captured following the sale of Oscar earlier this month…

The Brazilian was a bit-part player at Chelsea, so when the opportunity came up to sell him – it was likely a decision that Antonio Conte didn’t think twice about.

However, Chelsea’s squad is limited in size – and Conte can’t afford to sell players if he isn’t going to replace them – and so it was inevitable that Chelsea would look to bring in a replacement midfielder.

When Dimitri Payet was revealed yesterday to be wanting to leave West Ham, the ears of the Chelsea fans in the Tavern certainly pricked up. Arguably one of the Premier League’s finest players last season, Payet’s talent is clear for all to see – and so a move made sense for Chelsea.

Unsurprisingly, today, via the Sun, Chelsea have been linked with the move – with Conte looking to ensure that Chelsea don’t miss out on a famous Premier League title win, with the Blues reportedly missing out on a move for Bayern Munich star Arturo Vidal.

Whilst many in the Tavern are pleased with this news, some of the Chelsea fans are sceptical. They don’t think that a player like Payet, who is causing issues in-house at West Ham, should be brought in – as he could disrupt the balance and flow of the Chelsea squad.

Chelsea fans – do you agree? Is his ability worth the potential baggage that comes with it?
