Arsenal fans have been left heartbroken here in the Football Transfer Tavern, and that is down to a combination of BBC Sport, Cesc Fabregas and Chelsea.
Having seemingly forgotten the fact that in order to engineer a move to Barcelona, former Gunner Cesc refused to play, the fan favourite has further stabbed Arsenal fans in the back and joined rivals Chelsea from Cules Barcelona.
Well, one of our punters in the tavern notes that Chelsea don’t really consider Arsenal rivals – more like a club slightly lower down in the food chain – and a selling one at that.
Now having announced the deal for Fabregas on the same day the World Cup kicked off, Jose Mourinho and the Blues certainly managed to turn attentions to themselves – but that is how they like it.
Fabregas for his part wrote an open letter explaining why he has joined Chelsea, claiming it was the best choice for him, and noting that had Arsenal come in for him, he would have thought very seriously about making a move back to north London – but they did not. He also claimed to have ‘unfinished business’ in the Premier League which we assume is code for winning it – and we all know how difficult that has been for Arsenal in recent years.
Thus a move to Chelsea and indeed a pay rise were on the cards, and now Fabregas will join a rather formidable front line next season which only looks to get stronger as Diego Costa is added.
