Chelsea landing £19.8m-rated full-back would end Kenedy’s career at Stamford Bridge

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have been mightily impressed by Kenedy’s form since he moved on loan to Newcastle in the January transfer window, but recent reports suggest that his future with the club remains dead and buried.

Antonio Conte rarely afforded Kenedy a legitimate opportunity to showcase his talent in Chelsea’s first-team after the Italian arrived at the club in 2016, but Rafa Benitez has handed him an opportunity to thrive in the Premier League with Newcastle this season. The Brazilian has been thrown straight into Newcastle’s first team, and he has rewarded his manager with a string of fine performances for the Magpies during their impressive run of form in recent weeks.

The quality of his performances certainly warrant a chance in Chelsea’s first team next season, however, recent reports from The Daily Mirror suggest he has no future with the club. According to the report, Paris Saint-Germain full-back Layvin Kurzawa has emerged as a potential transfer target for the club, although they face competition from Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United for his signature.

The quality of Kurzawa’s form for the French giants this year suggests he would seriously pose a threat to Marcos Alonso’s place in the first-team, so it’s no surprise the Blues are interested in prising him away from the French capital.

However, Kurzawa’s arrival would certainly force Kenedy to move away from Stamford Bridge to seek first-team opportunities – a factor which the club must strongly consider before making a move for the French international.

Kenedy’s best performances for Newcastle have arrived in a more advanced role to the one which he naturally operates in, so perhaps the Chelsea hierarchy do not see a place for him within the current system that Conte prefers to deploy.

Either way, Chelsea’s interest in Kurzawa heavily implies that they have no plans to integrate Kenedy back into the squad next season, but that should be no worry to the 22-year-old, as he will have plenty of forthcoming offers to consider when the season reaches its conclusion on the evidence of his current form for Newcastle.
