Chelsea landing 41-goal attacker would be Abramovich’s best deal since Didier Drobga

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have been disappointed by the impact of Alvaro Morata since his arrival at the club last summer, but recent report suggest that he could be replaced this summer.

After a promising opening to life in the Premier League, the quality of Morata’s performances took a considerable dip during Chelsea’s underwhelming 2017/18 season. His future at the club is now in considerable doubt due to his previous comments which suggest he could be open to a move away from the club this summer, and recent reports from the Daily Telegraph have cast further uncertainty over his long-term future.

According to the report, Chelsea have made Bayern Munich’s prolific striker Robert Lewandowski their primary summer target. After scoring 41 goals in all-competitions last season, it’s no surprise that Roman Abramovich is interested in financing a deal for his services, although persuading the Polish international to move to Stamford Bridge could prove a difficult task without Champions League football to offer.

However, Chelsea should do everything they can to lure him to the club, as a permanent deal would represent their best piece of business since they signed Didier Drogba from Marseille in 2004. Drogba’s impact at the club has left a lasting impression on the resident Pensioners faithful propping up our bar who will forever regard him as one of the best strikers to ever pull on the blue shirt, but Lewandowski possesses the credentials to become the next fan-favourite in West London.

After winning 6 Bundesliga titles and 2 German cups, it’s likely that Lewandowski will be eager to embark on a new challenge with time running out to achieve further honours in European football as his 30th birthday approaches. Chelsea will need to resolve the nagging issue of Conte’s future before they make any significant progress in the transfer market, but once a decision has been reached they should ensure that they open negotiations with Bayern Munich over a potential deal for one of Europe’s most prolific strikers.
