The Chelsea fans in the Football Transfer Tavern would love to see him at Stamford Bridge…
Given Chelsea’s mixed start to the season, it will come as no surprise to learn that Antonio Conte is seemingly already thinking about his transfer plans for the January transfer window.
The Blues’ squad is clearly a long way from being the complete package, and the Chelsea fans in the Tavern are in agreement that the midfield is by far the weakest area.
This is an issue that, seemingly, Conte is looking to solve – with a January move for an in-demand Portuguese midfielder.
According to the Daily Mirror, Chelsea are leading the race for Porto ace Ruben Neves, whom is also reportedly being courted by Liverpool, Juventus and Valencia.
They add that he is rated around the £35 million mark, whilst Chelsea would be willing to offer around the £24 million mark, plus a player.
It’s not surprising that the Blues are chasing midfield depth, given the lack of stability in the middle of the park as of late. Cesc Fabregas is out of favour, whilst Nemanja Matic continues to look out-of-form alongside N’Golo Kante.
The Blues in the Tavern are somewhat concerned that the arrival of a player like Neves could cut the opportunities available to the likes of Nathaniel Chalobah and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, but they’d be willing to take the hit for a player like Neves.
Our landlord agrees – and has been singing the praises of the young Portuguese midfielder as of late.
