Manchester Evening News has both Manchester City and Chelsea fans crowding around the bar here in the Football Transfer Tavern and that can only mean one thing – news about Frank Lampard.
After a great start to his City career, the former Chelsea midfielder sparked rumours that he may well stay beyond his initial loan spell at the Etihad Stadium.
There was talk that Lampard’s parent MLS side New York City would possibly allow him to remain at sister club City for a little bit longer, given his better than expected performances in City’s Premier League title challenge.
Despite this, the Citizens midfielder claimed he was not looking to break his initial agreement, with ‘Super Frank’ noting: “I am contracted here until January.
“I am enjoying every minute of training at this level and being able to get game time. That is as far as it goes at the moment.
“Speculation has come because of a couple of goals,” he continued. “But at the moment there is nothing to be said.”
Whilst Chelsea fans might initially be comforted by this news, it is worth noting Frank also claimed he would never play for another Premier League side – or indeed against Chelsea.
As he has managed to do both of those things with a goal as the cherry on the top, some resident Blues think he could well be telling a few porkies yet again.
Chelsea fans. Will Lampard indeed return to New York City FC in January or will the Citizens manage to bend the rules? Let us know your thoughts below.
