Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have been left in a positive mood as they tucked into a fried breakfast this morning, as their fears of one of their club legends joining arch-rivals Manchester United have been relayed.
ESPN state that former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has been left frustrated by the lack of movement from Manchester United for his signature, leading the Portuguese boss to explore other availabilities.
Chelsea axed the underperforming manager earlier this season following disastrous results in the Premier League but he was quickly identified as the favourite to replace Louis Van Gaal at Manchester United.
Mourinho made immediate contact with United following his dismissal but it’s been made clear that Ed Woodward’s preference is to remain with Van Gaal, hoping that the experienced Dutchman can improve the club’s fortunes.
Van Gaal ended 2015 in disappointing form, without a win in eight matches across all competitions, but kicked the New Year off in style with a 2-1 victory against Swansea City- a game where Wayne Rooney scored his first Premier League goal of the season.
Our landlord believes United have made the wrong call ignoring Mourinho’s interest, stating that the former Real Madrid boss holds better value in the long-term than the ageing Louis Van Gaal.
