The Express have revealed good news to our resident Manchester City fans in the Football Transfer Tavern this evening.
The story notes that Frank Lampard will extend his loan stay at the Etihad Stadium instead of moving back to MLS side New York City as expected in January.
The former England midfielder has already signed an extension to his current loan deal, putting him on a salary of £190,000-a-week which is much more than he ever earned whilst in his prime at Chelsea.
This is great news for City’s boss Manuel Pellegrini, who is preparing for life without Yaya Toure in the coming months with the former Barcelona man away representing Ivory Coast in the African Cup of Nations.
Lampard’s present loan deal was set to expire on January 7th and now that he has signed an extension, he will remain at with the Citizens until the end of the 2014/15 season.
Once he has fulfilled his stay in the Premier League for the rest of the season, he will then move to America in May to begin his MLS career with New York City.
The reason why Pellegrini was able to pull off the extension is because the American club is owned by City’s chief Sheikh Mansour, meaning they were able to loan him internally between the two clubs.
Manchester City fans. How happy are you to hear that Frank Lampard will extend his stay in Manchester? Leave your thoughts below.
