The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have been seriously impressed with Thibaut Courtois this season…
The Belgian shot-stopper has been a revelation in the heart of the Chelsea defence, with a pretty poor season last year contrasted with a goalkeeping masterclass this year.
Much of Chelsea’s success this season has come down to their stellar defensive record, and Courtois must get the credit for that.
It came as a huge disappointment to the Blues in the Tavern, then, when reports via Marca linked Courtois with a move to Real Madrid. The report appeared to imply that a move was inevitable, leaving the Blues in the Transfer Tavern sweating on their side’s long-term prospects.
However, it would appear as though Antonio Conte has a contingency plan – and he is reportedly lining up a couple of goalkeeping stars as potential replacements.
According to AS, Chelsea are looking at Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak and Man City shot-stopper Joe Hart as potential replacements, should the Belgian decide that he wants to leave the club.
Whilst neither keeper is on the level of Courtois, the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are now remarkably less concerned about the proposed departure of Courtois. Joe Hart, in particular, they think would be a good option – given his availability and experience at the highest level.
Our landlord thinks that whilst the Blues must hold on to Courtois if they can, the fact that Conte is preparing for the future is a very good sign.
