Chelsea lining up defender move as Conte plots summer spend-up

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate to see a few players move to Stamford Bridge this summer…

One such player that could be on the move to Chelsea this summer is Jorge Mere, with the Daily Star reporting that Chelsea are interested in bringing the talented defender to the Premier League this summer.  Though the Daily Star note that Valencia are the favourites, Chelsea are apparently keen on securing a deal for the £25m-rated defender this summer, with Antonio Conte seemingly keen to begin his summer plans already.

There is certainly a gap in the Chelsea first team that Mere could fill.  He is a natural centre-half, offering a powerful, technical defensive force in the heart of the Sporting backline – and Chelsea could look to take advantage of that. With John Terry yet to sign a new contract at the club, he could fill that gap nicely.

It would be expected that Mere would come in as a rotational option, though, with the Chelsea defence pretty difficult to break into at present. Gary Cahill and Cesar Azpilicueta have been ever-presents this season, whilst the fine form of David Luiz has been sensational this season.

The Chelsea fans in the pub are keen to see Mere join.
