Mehdi Benatia has put a smile on the faces of Chelsea fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern after Metro reported that the Moroccan defender is keen to play for the Blues and their boss Jose Mourinho.
Chelsea have already come into contact with Roma once this summer after left back Ashley Cole decided to move there on a free transfer and now it seems that the Blues could see a different defender make a switch in the opposite direction.
Benatia has already turned Chelsea down once, but it seems that manager Jose Mourinho has made all the difference to any decision he may make.
The former Udinese player admitted himself that he made a mistake initially turning down Chelsea and Mourinho during his first spell in charge at Stamford Bridge over fears of homesickness.
Should Chelsea wish to take the defender up on his wishes, they will have to shell out a fair bit of cash – £30 million to be exact – but then again, given they netted £50 million for David Luiz, that is small change really!
