Chelsea and Liverpool may have to look elsewhere for a left back, as punters in the Football Transfer Tavern have received news of a firm hands off warning reported in The Independent.
Transfer target Luke Shaw has reportedly claimed that he is ‘not even thinking about moving’ in the January transfer window, or even the summer and has spoken out about the constant links that are surrounding him.
Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino also spoke about the speculation and lamented: “I think many of our players have recently been in the spotlight.”
The Saints boss was of course referring to the likes of Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Jay Rodriguez who recently received international recognition with England.
“I think all of these players, all of my players, are going through new experiences that they have to adapt to, have to get used to.
“They have to live with these new experiences, new situations. We need to be able to manage the situation. This is also part of football, not just playing.”
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has made it clear that he is not a big fan of Ashley Cole’s current form, both on and off the field and has handed the left back spot to Cesar Azplilcueta who has shone in the position, being one of the best players on the park against Arsenal on Monday night.
Cole is reportedly considering hanging up his boots at the end of the season, making it even more likely that Chelsea will have to move for Shaw.
Liverpool meanwhile could well move for Chelsea outcast Ryan Bertrand, with Brendan Rodgers a known fan of the player.
Should Shaw remain at St. Mary’s and continue his footballing education there? Let us know your thoughts below.
