Chelsea fans are looking up with what our landlord describes as panic here in the Football Transfer Tavern, after we hear about the latest claim from the Daily Mail.
The publication note that Thibaut Courtois will not return to Stamford Bridge unless he is assured a first team spot.
As the majority of football fans will know, this could well prove to be a little bit tricky, considering the keeper is up against one of the best, if not the best stopper in the last ten years, Petr Cech for that place.
As our landlord points out, the Belgian international is well within his rights to make such demands. He has just been voted La Liga keeper of the year and is seeing his star rise higher and higher.
After spending yet another season out on loan at Atletico Madrid, questions over his future have been raised. Both Atletico Madrid and Barcelona would be keen on landing the stopper permanently should Jose Mourinho decide he is not quite good enough to replace Cech.
Barcelona are in the hunt for a new man between the posts after long standing keeper Victor Valdes decided to leave the club at the end of his current contract and are known admirers of Courtois.
Quite how high the chances are of Jose Mourinho selling such a talent to his personal arch rivals however is debatable.
Atletico Madrid meanwhile are flying high under the tutelage of Diego Simeone and are putting together a top side, with the likes of Diego Costa and Koke. To land Courtois on a permanent deal would represent a huge coup for the Spanish capital club.
Will Chelsea offer Courtois the assurances he needs or will they keep faith with Cech? Let us know your thoughts below.
