Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern had an indifferent week as they saw a club hero move to manage Manchester United but many fans remain focused on the new era under Antonio Conte.
The Blues’ defence was uncharacteristically shaky this season and it’s something that Conte needs to repair over the summer, with it seeming that the Italian boss has already begun his push to seal new signings.
Goal state Chelsea have been informed by South American giants River Plate that they have to pay £8m to sign young defender Emmanuel Mammana, with the 20-year-old likely to leave Argentina for Europe during the close season.
Mammana, widely regarded as one of the best defensive prospects outside of European football, has a release clause of £11m in his contract with the Argentine side, although River Plate are ready to accept a lesser fee in order to complete a deal quickly.
Chelsea may find it difficult to complete a deal for the defender though as Mammana’s representative is flying to Italy this week to talk with Fiorentina and Inter Milan, whilst Real Betis and Arsenal have also both been linked with the player in the past.
Would Mammana and Kurt Zouma develop into the best defensive partnership in the Premier League? Let us know in the comments below!
