Chelsea supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern are still waiting for a striker to arrive at Stamford Bridge this summer as Jose Mourinho struggles to find a new focal point for this side.
Now Metro suggest that the Blues could now move for Porto centre forward Jackson Martinez should they fail with their third bid to land Manchester United star Wayne Rooney.
The England international remains Mourinho’s prime transfer target this summer, but after seeing bids rejected by the Old Trafford club they could now turn their attentions to the Colombian star striker.
Reports indicate that the Blues could still make another bid for Rooney after their match at Old Trafford on Monday, but Mourinho has admitted that he has a ‘plan B and C’ which may well involve Martinez.
The Porto star struck 29 goals in 38 appearances for the Portuguese club last season and given Mourinho’s close relationship with the club he used to manage, a possible deal of around £30 million could be enough to land the 26-year-old this summer.
Napoli could provide competition to the Blues for the striker who may be available for transfer during the current transfer window.
Meanwhile, Mourinho finally landing a new centre forward could see former Newcastle United striker Demba Ba leave the club before the September 2nd deadline, with numerous Premier League clubs looking at taking the 28-year-old on loan for the season.
