The Daily Mail have some welcome news for Chelsea fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern as they claim that the Blues are set to offer a new contract to Gary Cahill.
The former Bolton Wanderers defender has impressed since arriving at the club and under Jose Mourinho has looked more and more comfortable at the back.
As our landlord notes, the defender is similar in his style of play to John Terry and Jose Mourinho has regularly been playing both of the England internationals together at the back, seeing Cahill grow into his role.
The 28-year-old has impressed so much that despite still having three years left on his current contract, Mourinho and Chelsea’s board want to get him tied down for the long-term. The defender is happy in West London and settled with his family.
Not only that, but he has certainly cemented his position at the club and where David Luiz has failed and been benched, Cahill has shown the must win attitude and self discipline that Mourinho loves in his defenders.
Over a pint, some of our regulars note that the future is bright for Cahill with the World Cup this summer and the certainty that barring an injury, the player will be on the plane to Rio.
Chelsea fans. How impressed have you been with Cahill this season? Let us know your thoughts below.
