Chelsea looking elsewhere as Blues consider Drinkwater alternatives

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are eager for a few more players to move to Stamford Bridge before the summer is over…

Despite big money signings like Alvaro Morata and Antonio Rudiger, Antonio Conte’s job is far from done, with a host of players still needed at Stamford Bridge.

However, one player that may not come to SW6 this summer is reported target Danny Drinkwater. According to the Telegraph, whilst the Blues are keen on him, they have not made a move since a bid a few weeks ago – and they are said to be considering other options in the midfield.

This news has earned a mixed response in the Transfer Tavern, with most Chelsea supporters divided on the prospect of Drinkwater moving to Stamford Bridge.

Drinkwater, 27, has enjoyed quite the rise over the last few years, with his key role alongside N’Golo Kante during the 2015/16 season a key reason as to why the Foxes were able to land the Premier League trophy. Last season saw their performances slip, and the midfielder failed to hit the heights of the previous season, but there is no doubting his quality.

It remains to be seen just who the other targets that Chelsea are considering are, but they’ll certainly have to be of a certain quality to be a better choice than Drinkwater.

Landlord’s Verdict

Though not a particularly big name, Drinkwater has done a solid job for Leicester over the last few years, and there is no doubting that he would be a great addition.

But with Chelsea’s last bid reportedly around £15 million, and Leicester City said to be demanding £30 million, Chelsea will either need to double their money or look elsewhere.

Other targets are out there, but Chelsea are running out of time to seal a deal.
