Nick Lustig from the Daily Star has caused pints to be dropped in the Football Transfer Tavern this evening.
He claims that Chelsea are to step up their pursuit for Radamel Falcao by making a loan offer for the Colombian striker during January.
The Blues may have found the net four times last night at the Stadium of Light, but not one of the goals came through the current strikers and the trio of Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o and Demba Ba continue to struggle for consistency in front of goal.
That has reportedly seen Mourinho look to the 27-year-old Monaco striker, who he believes can be secured on a short-term deal as grows uphappy with life at his new club.
Real Madrid are also likely to be interested in signing the former Atletico Madrid forward with French reports suggesting that he has asked to leave the Ligue 1 club when the transfer window open.
It seems that the prolific striker is particularly annoyed that his expected €14 million contract is only working out at €7 million-a-year after tax and this wage disagreement could see him departing the Principality after only six months.
As one punter quips, Falcao would be still eligible to play in the Champions League this season given Monaco’s lack of participation in the elite competition.
This could make a move to Stamford Bridge a real possibility as Mourinho looks for extra firepower in his attack in all competitions.
