Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are discussing reports that they’ve made contact with a potential signing from Serie A and they’re surprised to hear it’s not Leonardo Bonucci.
Italian outlet CalcioMercato state Chelsea have made contact with the agents of Inter Milan defender Jeison Murillo, with Antonio Conte looking to bolster his defensive ranks ahead of his maiden campaign at Stamford Bridge.
The defence is a key-part of Conte’s rebuild in west London and he’s been eyeing a host of names from the Italian league, including Juventus duo Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini, but it seems he has switched his sights to transfers that will be easier to complete.
The report adds that Inter Milana are prepared to sell a crop of players to balance their financial books and Murillo is one name who could be on the way out, with the 24-year-old one of those men despite only arriving at Inter last year.
However, a deal for Murillo will not come cheap as it’s stated Inter value the player at around £23.8m, which would eat up a large chunk of Conte’s summer transfer budget.
