Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern haven’t had too much to get excited about this season but they’ve been loudly discussing one transfer rumour on the sofas as they prepare for tonight’s Champions League action.
Spanish outlet Fichajes state Chelsea have made contact with AC Milan regarding a possible deal for highly-rated goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who is already being rated at £119m by his agent.
Donnarumma has emerged as one of the most exciting talents on the European stage this season after cementing his place as first-choice goalkeeper for Milan at the age of 16, helping the San Siro outfit in their bid to land a spot in the Champions League next season.
Hotly-tipped to become the long-term replacement for legendary goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon in Italy’s international side, Donnarumma is set for a massive future- and Chelsea, along with Manchester United, are keen to see him fulfil his potential in England.
However, Milan are unlikely to want to sell whilst Donnarumma would demand first-team action if he were to leave Italy- which is something Chelsea cannot currently offer, as they already have an excellent stopper in Thibaut Courtois.
Our landlord feels interest in Donnarumma will only rise as the year’s progress though and he feels the goalkeeper will command a massive transfer price in a few years, should Milan fail to build themselves back to the heights they once stood at.
