Chelsea make move for potential Conte replacement as Abramovich looks to next season

Chelsea fans in the Tavern are right to be displeased after watching Antonio Conte’s title defence fail miserably with the Blues now facing an uphill battle to qualify for next season’s Champions League. Just a year after lifting the Premier League, Conte could be on his way out.

Ten points adrift of the top four, Chelsea might have to settle for Europa League football next season. Indeed, Conte was a revelation in his first season in England as the Blues were crowned champions and many expected them to be the first side since 2008 to retain the title.

The former Juventus coach has been heavily criticised this season and it looks like his time at Stamford Bridge could be coming to an end with owner Roman Abramovich looking for potential replacements. Now, the Russian billionaire has sounded out Napoli manager, Maurizio Sarri, in regard to taking the reins in London next season, according to the Mirror.

Sarri, 59, is the man behind Napoli’s title challenge – they are just four points behind Juventus in second – and has been with the club since 2015. As you can imagine, considering his work over in Naples, the Blues in our bar would love to see him arrive in SW6 next season.

Chelsea fans, would you be happy to see Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge? Let us know!
