Chelsea make shock decision and will allow first-team star to leave

courtoiscourtoisChelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are rubbing their eyes in disbelief, amidst speculation a genuine superstar will be shown the exit door.

The Daily Express have revealed Chelsea will allow Belgian international Thibaut Courtois to leave Stamford Bridge this summer, if their asking price of around £60m is met.

Courtois excelled last season, his first campaign back in England after years with Atletico Madrid, and dislodged club legend Petr Cech from the first-team frame, which ultimately led to the veteran’s departure to join Arsenal last summer.

However, this season Courtois has struggled to maintain fitness and form, which has irritated Chelsea, and the Belgian’s poor attitude is stated as a deciding factor in the Blues decision to cash-in.

The decision to sell the 23-year-old will certainly be controversial as it will be difficult for Chelsea to find a suitable replacement without the lure of Champions League football, whilst it also raises further questions as to why the club elected to sell Cech to rivals Arsenal last summer.

Unfortunately for the Blues, it’s unlikely to be the only high-profile departure as the likes of Diego Costa and Eden Hazard have both been linked with exits from the Premier League side at the end of the season.

Chelsea fans, would it be disastrous to allow Courtois to leave? Let us know in the comments below!
