Chelsea and Manchester City legally questioned regarding controversial transfer

NeymarChelsea and Manchester City fans are no strangers to controversy here in the Transfer Tavern and details have emerged of the messy legal debate they’re being dragged into on the continent.

The two Premier League giants have been called upon to help get to the bottom of the Neymar fiasco, as Spanish courts investigate the proceedings that led to his move to Barcelona from Santos in 2013.

Spanish outlet AS state the judge of the case asked for the financial packages both sides presented to Neymar be put forward, with the same occurring for Barcelona’s arch-rivals Real Madrid and German giants Bayern Munich.

Real Madrid are said to have put forward a bid of €45m for the Brazilian and Bayern Munich never went as far as making a firm offer. For the English sides, no details have yet been revealed regarding their attempts of securing the iconic superstar.

Whilst Neymar stars on the field, there’s been vast controversy off it as the Spanish club declared they paid €57m for the South American- but the judge has calculated a cost of over €80m whilst prosecutors claim it’s over €90m.

Chelsea and City fans in the bar need not worry as their sides have not done anything illegal but for Barcelona it’s a different story, with both current Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu and his predecessor Sandro Rosell both facing jail terms if found guilty of tax evasion and embezzlement.
