There are sighs of relief here in the Football Transfer Tavern as one of the longest running sagas in football has finally come to an end as the Irish Times report that Neymar has finally signed for Barcelona.
The Santos forward has always been open about his admiration for the Catalan club and now it seems he has put his future where his mouth is and penned a five-year deal with the La Liga champions.
It has been rumoured that Florentino Perez could swoop in with a late bid for the Santos player before the elections at Real Madrid yet the player has always wanted to join Barcelona and has also rejected the chance to move to the Premier League with both Manchester City and also Chelsea to finally link up with Lionel Messi at the Camp Nou in a mouthwatering partnership.
The 21-year-old’s choice has clearly pleased the Catalan club who noted on their official website that: “FC Barcelona and Santos have agreed to terms for Neymar da Silva Santos Junior. The Brazilian forward will don the Blaugrana strip for the next five seasons. The 21-year old is one of the most promising footballers on the planet.”
Santos had accepted offers from both Barcelona and Real Madrid, leaving it up to the player to decide his future and Neymar claimed: “On Monday I will sign a contract with FC Barcelona.”
