The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern were mightily impressed with Michy Batshuayi’s end to the season, with the Belgian firing on all cylinders as the Blues closed out a winning Premier League season…
Indeed, despite not being used for much of the campaign, Batshuayi proved his worth for Conte – scoring several times throughout their run-in – leaving many in the pub hoping that he would be given a chance next season.
Whether that happens or not remains a big question, but there is at least a chance that the Belgian may not even be a Chelsea player next year. According to the Sun, Monaco have joined West Ham in the race to sign Batshuayi this summer, with the publication also noting that Batshuayi could perhaps look to leave in search of more regular football.
A move to West Ham certainly wouldn’t be a popular one amongst the Chelsea fans in the pub, though some wouldn’t be completely against the Belgian moving to Monaco – albeit temporarily. Monaco have been stellar this year, and have a proven track record of improving young players, and so a move there might make sense for Batshuayi.
Of course, much of this depends on how Batshuayi would be positioned next season. If Conte is ready to give him a regular chance, staying at Chelsea certainly makes sense – but if a top new striker comes in and pushes him further down the ladder, it might be best for both player and club to move him on.
Whatever happens, our landlord doesn’t think Chelsea should allow a permanent transfer – as Batshuayi has really proven his worth this year.
