For the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern, John Terry is absolutely crucial to the foundations of their club…
John Terry has found game time and involvement within the Chelsea first team increasingly limited this season, with injury and form forcing the Chelsea captain away from the pitch.
Unfortunately for Terry, his poor run of fitness and form has come at a bad time, with his Chelsea contract set to expire at the end of the season – so could a departure be on the cards?
Well, according to the Times, Terry could be given a stay of execution – but not in the way that you might think. The Times are reporting that Terry has been told that whilst he won’t be given a new playing deal at Chelsea – the Chelsea brass are keen to ensure that they find another role for the defender.
It would be expected that this role is in a non-playing capacity in the vein of a coach or assistant – but the details regarding any future deal for the English veteran are yet to be established.
Whilst the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are disappointed that Terry is unlikely to be offered a new deal, they are delighted that he will be given the chance to stay in London.
Perhaps more concerning for them, though, is the reduced likelihood that he will remain at the club – with Terry already noting his desire to extend his playing career beyond the end of the season. Big-money offers from abroad, such as from China, could also tempt his head.
Our landlord thinks that Conte needs to do all he can to keep Terry around.
