The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have been very impressed with Victor Moses over the last year…
Brought back from obscurity by Antonio Conte, he became a breakthrough star for the Blues last season – impressing on the right-hand side of the Chelsea defence.
In truth, nobody in the pub was expecting him to make such a big impact, but the Nigerian enjoyed a stellar run of form under the Italian boss.
Now, with a comfortable position in the first team under his belt, the attacker-turned-defender is ready to repay Antonio Conte’s faith next season.
Having featured across the defence against Bayern Munich earlier this week, now the Nigerian is ready to fill in wherever Conte needs him to.
Speaking to the official Chelsea website, he said: “The manager told me to go left wing-back and I can play left-wing-back if needed, especially in a pre-season game”.
He added: “When I was a winger in the past I played on the right and on the left so it is not a problem”.
The Nigerian looked good in the game, as he so often has over the last few months, and looks more than comfortable on either side of the defence.
Victor Moses enjoyed a good season last year, but repeating that feat again next season will be a different feat entirely. Still, he has impressed in pre-season so far, and so Antonio Conte can’t ask for much more than that.
Chelsea have yet to sign a new defender for either flank, and so Moses could well be needed on each side – hence why Conte opted to try him out on the left. A role in the attack looks unlikely, so the Nigerian will likely stay in the defence, and that could mean on either side.
Everyone knows how good he is now, though, so the fans in the Transfer Tavern are expecting even more next season.
