The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are expecting big things from Michy Batshuayi next season…
He had a tough year last season, but the seemingly impending departure of Diego Costa has given him reason for hope, and it seems as though the Belgian is taking it with both hands at present.
At least, that’s the opinion of Chelsea shot-stopper Thibaut Courtois, who has revealed via the Evening Standard that he has been very impressed with Batshuayi’s recent contributions.
He said: “He [Batsuayi] is training well, doing what the manager asks and is scoring goals”.
Elaborating, he added: “For him it’s good. He needs to show that mentality every day in training and in every game. Michy is a top striker…He has shown in the few minutes he’s had at Chelsea, he has always done well. I hope he can build on that”.
Certainly, it is going to be a career-defining campaign for Batshuayi. He can’t afford to spend another year on the bench, but he must back up his expectations with good performances. Certainly, so far this summer he is proving his worth, but that process must continue going forward.
Still, in Alvaro Morata, the Blues have a forward that is not used to playing regularly and so there is definitely an opening for Batshuayi. Courtois clearly believes that the Belgian is good enough, and our landlord is backing him for success.
