Metro have a rather interesting claim for us here in the Football Transfer Tavern as they note that Chelsea have sent their young keeper Thibaut Courtois out on loan for yet another season.
The Belgium international has spent the last couple of seasons in La Liga at Atletico Madrid and is to return to the Vicente Calderon for another year at least.
One of the best and most exiting young keepers around, the player has always made it clear that playing first team football was what he wanted first and foremost and whilst he remains in Jose Mourinho’s long-term plans, it is Petr Cech that for now will keep the number one gloves at Stamford Bridge.
It had of course been rumoured that the keeper could be used in a £40 million plus player deal in order to lure Napoli’s Edinson Cavani to the Blues, yet now as one punter quips, it seems that Chelsea have seen sense and decided to keep Courtois on their books.
The news was confirmed on the Spanish side’s official Twitter account and Courtois himself admitted his joy at the loan deal, noting: “I am very happy because it’s what I wanted.”
“I’ve always said that I wanted to continue next season at Atletico and play in a competition as important as the Champions League qualifying.”
