Jose Mourinho has already made quite an impression on the Football Transfer Tavern following his emotional return to Stamford Bridge.
Since his arrival from Madrid he has brought along the usual mind games, the walking out of interviews and even snatching players away from their nearest rivals at the last minute while a few complaints about referees have surfaced once more.
Now Charles Perrin from The Express suggests that Mourinho could fetch one of his former players from the Bernabeu with a January move for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema in the pipeline.
The French international striker was reportedly the subject of fierce interest from the Blues’ London rivals Arsenal during the summer but no move eventually materialised and the former Lyon forward remains a key figure in Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
Mourinho recruited Cameroonian star Samuel Eto’o during the summer, but the 32-year-old is yet to make any sort of impact while Fernando Torres’ toils in front of goal continue while Demba Ba looks an inferior alternative.
This could see Jose moving for his former player as he looks to step up his pursuit for the Premier League crown while also making a strong push for another Champions League title.
Benzema has struggled of late, failing to find the net in his last five La Liga fixtures but his overall goals to games ratio stands at 47 goals from 97 La Liga appearances and the 25-year-old would certainly add more quality to the Blues’ current strikeforce.
Would this potential signing make any sense for Chelsea and Jose Mourinho in January? Let us know your thoughts below.
