Chelsea fans are rather depressed here in the Football Transfer Tavern but the latest claim from the The Guardian could well cheer them up.
The publication have claimed that Jose Mourinho has come out and hailed Thibaut Courtois who is of course a Chelsea player – on loan at Atletico Madrid.
Courtois was key last night in seeing Atletico through to the Champions League Final in Lisbon later this month and now we think that he could well be returning to Stamford Bridge as number one this summer.
Petr Cech will of course be undergoing surgery for his dislocated shoulder and this could well rule him out for the pre-season period, meaning that Mourinho will need Courtois to be back at the club.
The Chelsea boss spoke after the semi-final defeat and lavished praise on Courtois.
He claimed: “The difference was one moment in the second half, where the Atlético goalkeeper makes an impossible save from John Terry’s header, an amazing save, and instead of 2-1 to Chelsea a few minutes later [we concede] a penalty.”
Atleti are the only unbeaten side left in the Champions League and we think that Courtois has been a major part of this.
Chelsea fans. Do you fully expect Courtois to be your number one next season or does the Belgian now harbour a secret desire to stay with Champions League finalists Atleti? Let us know your thoughts below.
